Meditation and Prayer and Contemplative PrayerIntroduction to Christian Praxis
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article introduces the practice of meditation and contemplative prayer within Christianity, following the spiritual school of the Jesuit fathers Franz Jálics and Péter Mustó. It explains that meditation, rather than a theory, is a practice that requires an attitude of relaxed attention and an open presence to reality. Meditation is not about concentration or the exertion of active will but about allowing phenomena to become conscious on their own, cultivating a passive and receptive disposition. The text emphasizes the importance of confronting the internal resistances that arise during practice and remaining in the present moment, where God manifests Himself as being itself. When performed with intention, trust, and the repetition of the name of Jesus, meditation becomes prayer. In this sense, contemplative prayer seeks the unity of being, inner reconciliation, and the living experience of God’s presence in the here and now.
